Wyclef Jean lends his voice to Devalfest tonight PDF Print E-mail

Now, it can be told: Haitian presidential wannabe - and $2.1 million IRS scofflaw -  Wyclef Jean will take time out of his political campaign tonight to headline a fund-raising concert with  John Legend for Gov. Deval Patrick .
As of last night, the location of the musical time for the gov was TBA, but we did get confirmation from Patrick’s re-election campaign that it was going to happen after a week of dogging the Dems. And, as you can imagine, they are “thrilled” about the celebrity talent.

“Like Gov. Patrick, they understand the value of generational responsibility and civic engagement, and we are thankful that they have chosen to lend their voices to our efforts,” campaign spokesguy Alex Goldstein told the Track.

Sure, it’s nice of them. But are we the only ones who think inviting Wyclef Jean to entertain at a political fund-raiser sort of, well, strange?

Besides having his own campaign to consider, Haiti’s favorite son, who raised millions for the earthquake-ravaged country last year, is also accused of mismanaging his charity’s funds. The charity Yele Haiti was formed by Jean in 2005.

The former Fugee not only filed the charity’s taxes late, he used $410,000 in foundation funds to pay himself and a business partner for rent, production services and for his own appearance at a benefit concert.

Need we go on? Sounds like tonight’s Devalfest will be Legend.
