American Idol saw its pool of hopefuls whittled down to the top 5 at the close of Wednesday's results show. The hourlong elimination process featured performances by Rascal Flatts, Shakira, Lady Antebellum and Sons of
Sylvia. When all was said and done, AI season 9's most colorful character, Siobhan Magus, was booted from the competition. Here's how it all went down.

Country superstar band Rascal Flatts opened the American Idol results show action with a rendition of their hit Unstoppable. I'll preface this by noting that I love Flatts, but man, this was not one of their finer offerings. The guys just sounded uncharacteristically weak. Bummer.

Up next was the Ford Music Video of the week, which involved the top 6 decked out as vampires and a red Mustang. Riiiight. Ah, the dominance of pop culture. Then we got to see the top 6 meeting the director of the new upcoming Shrek movie, Shrek Forever After. M-kay. (Sometimes I think they need to try much too hard to fill the results show hour.)

And finally, some American Idol results action! Pay attention, because this could get befuddling. Host Ryan Seacrest called on Siobhan Magnus first, and sent her to the other side of the stage. Aaron Kelly was next to stand, and Ryan told him to hit the center of the stage. Michael Lynche was told to stand right next to Ryan, while Lee DeWyze was sent to stand near Siobhan. Casey James then joined Michael, and finally, Crystal Bowersox joined Aaron. Ryan walked Siobhan to stand next to Michael and Casey, and proclaimed them the week's bottom three. Bummer, Siobhan and Casey are among my AI season 9 faves.

This is going to be a welcome addition for lots of people, especially those who aren’t necessarily happy with what links Google has for them on the first page of results. It also solves the problem of sharing a name with someone that happens to be a popular search term. For Google though, it could be a big boon to Google Profiles(), the service that is powering this whole thing.

Google Profiles that users have setup under that name at the bottom of search results. If you haven’t yet setup a Google Profile, you’ll now be provided with the option to do so when you Google “me

Now that they are integrated in Google ego searches, you can imagine that people are going to be paying a lot more attention to what’s in their Google Profile and keeping it updated with more frequency. As such, Google might have just unlocked an incredibly important piece of their social networking strategy. There might not be a social network (in the traditional sense) built around Google Profiles just yet, but the groundwork has just been laid in a very big way.

Sex ads give Craigslist $36 million?

Sex ads on Craigslist provide about a third of the company's revenue, which will bring in $36 million to the simplistic online bulletin board. That's a problem for at least one attorney general.

According to the New York Times, Craigslist is projected to grow its revenue year-over-year by 22% in Fiscal Year 2011. However, the site still faces legal questions over the fact that people can easily use the unfiltered ad-posting site to seek out and advertise illegal activity including prostitution, or even human trafficking.

Toting the party line, Craigslist CEO James Buckmaster said, "Misuse of Craigslist for criminal purposes is utterly unacceptable."

Even so, sex ads alone could count for as much as $36 million of the company's projected $100+ million next year, according to media tracker Advanced Interactive Media Group.

As recently as last week, the FBI arrested members of a crime family accused of prostituting out underage girls as young as 15 against their will, through Craigslist. Posting an ad to the "adult services" section of Craigslist costs $10, and $5 for each time the ad is re-posted.

Any time an inappropriate or illegal ad is posted, Craigslist is often quick to take it down. However, the lack of filtering makes it possible for any ad to go live, if for only a few minutes.
